Happy Earth Day from Color Theory! Earth Day is all about experiencing, learning about, and protecting our earth. Here are a few simple activities you can do to make an impact (or at least have some fun)!
Turn off Lights
A really simple way to conserve energy and help the earth is to turn off your lights. Make sure to turn off the lights that you aren't using and see what you can get done with fewer lights on. You could even try turning off all the lights in your house for an hour. Think of how much energy you could save!
Also, make sure to unplug electronics that aren't in use. Even if they're not on, they can still consume energy.
Plant a Mini Herb Garden
I can't think of a more fitting activity to do on Earth Day than to start a mini herb garden! Herb gardens are great because you always have fresh herbs available for use, herbs are cheaper to grow than they are to buy, and it is just plain fun to be able to grow something. You don't even need a lot of space to grow herbs. For an outdoor herb garden, you can use little pots to plant your seeds, or, if you don't have a lot of space, you can use a cloth, hanging shoe rack (cut in half) as a planter.
You can also use old mugs to plant an indoor herb garden to add some beautiful green into your home! Points for planting herbs AND reusing something that may have gone to waste!
Clean Out Your Closets
If you're looking for something to do while your lights are turned off, try cleaning out the closets in your home. Take some time to pull everything out of the closet and decide if you really need to keep it. Anything that you don't need or use anymore gets donated! That way someone else can use those items and they don't go straight to the trash, or continue taking up space in your home. Some questions you can ask yourself while cleaning are:
-Have I worn/used it in the last 12 months?
-Would I wear/use it again?
-If I saw it in a store now, would I buy it?
-Is it damaged?
Have some fun with Earth Day by baking these amazing Earth Day cookies!
These cookies are so simple! All you need is one box of vanilla (or white) cake mix, 2 eggs, 1/3 cup vegetable oil, and food coloring. To make the cookies, you heat the oven to 375, mix the ingredients together (half the dough will be mixed with blue food coloring, the other half with green food coloring), create a ball with both blue and green dough, place on a greased cookie sheet, and bake for 7-9 minutes (until the edges start to brown). So easy! And these cookies are the perfect way to wrap up Earth Day!
