Today Color Theory employs several artists and craftsmen and helps hundreds of customers a year with finding the perfect color match for their home. With proven painting methods and a star team Color Theory will give you the best painting experience in Bloomington.
"When I was 17 years old I was tasked with one of the most grueling summer chores known in all of adolescents. I had to paint my uncle's garage. A fitting responsibility for boy such as I. Taking a page out of Tom Sawyer's book I think I coerced as many friends as I could to help me with such an awful task. Today, every time my uncle sees me he says, "who would have thunk it".
I started painting professionally the following autumn as one of my first jobs out of high school. I was a part of a three man crew for a construction company. I think what drew me in was the project oriented nature of painting. I could stand back and see what I had accomplished over the course of the day. The motion of gliding my paint brush along the edge of the wall reminded me of the stroke of a pencil on paper that had taken me away to the creative landscapes of imagination. I loved the work. I decided eventually to go to art school and get a BFA from Indiana University and painting became the way I put myself through college. Then just a few semesters in, my boss decided to apply for business school leaving me to run the company if I dared. There, in the crack of the Recession I began to take on work as it would come. Slowly but surely my reputation grew and I decided to incorporate under the name Color Theory, llc. While in art school I learned the purpose and function of color. I learned how it works and how it makes us feel and wonder. I began to see the work that I did in people's homes as a kind of art in and of itself. I love sharing that with both those who think they'd like to paint and those who want to refresh their home with color."
Painting it Forward
We decided to build a company on the foundations of great color and great customer service. We believe in giving great service to both our customer and our community. We give back to the community with our Paint it Forward program. Each year we pick a select group of non-profit groups whose facilities can use a little help. This year we helped My Sister's Closet and Girl's Inc, two women's organizations with a purpose to build up strong and bold girls and women and give them the tools to succeed in the work place. Girls Inc. of Monroe County has been helping girls and young women to expand their horizon through after school programming for 40 years. We offered our painting services and Benjamin Moore provided the paint to revitalize the center and make it a more attractive place for our community's girls.
We also offered our weekend to My Sister's Closet, a non-profit organization providing low cost professional clothing for women entering the work place. They also offer professional resources to the women they service. Sherwin-Williams provided the paint and we along with the LDS Boy Scout Troupe provided the labor. We call it our "Paint It Forward" program because this is how we give back to our community who has kept us in business for the last 5 years.
